The One You Serve Is Your Master
Don’t you know that when you offer yourselves to someone to obey him as slaves, you are slaves to the one whom you obey – whether you are slaves to sin, which leads to death, or to obedience, which leads to righteousness? - Romans 6:16
It is the human condition that we are servants to something. We serve our appetites, our ambition, our fears, or our faith; but we will serve someone or something.
When we are living out of our fleshly desires we will serve sin. Serving sin leads to the inevitable – death. I find it interesting that sin, with all of its promises, can only satisfy for a season, then it craves more. Sin only feeds the appetites of the flesh which is going to die anyway, without making any preparation for what comes after this short life.
When we are serving Christ, in obedience to his revealed will, we are releasing life into ourselves. Not just life for a season, but life for eternity. The grace of God that is released to us through faith in Christ is eternal life.
Jesus said, “Whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned; he has crossed over from death to life” (John 5:24).
When we surrender to God, through faith in Christ, we become a slave to righteousness and that is a gift of God's grace. When we choose Christ he is our master.
Prayer: I have received Christ and by grace through faith I have crossed over from death to life. Grant me the grace, as I live in Christ, to live out your righteousness. In Jesus name, amen.
