Being Like-minded and Having One Purpose
Being united with Christ brings us into relationship with his entire body. Because we are connected to the body of Christ we must purpose to be of the same attitude of mind as the rest of the body.
What is the attitude that we should have? There are three clues in this verse:
- “Having the same love:” The love of Christ is to be what motivates us and when that happens we will have the same attitude.
- “Being one in spirit:” When we act in unison as one then harmony is the result – a oneness in what we do, what we say and how we think.
- “Being one in… purpose:” Our purpose must be to fulfill the will of the Father and when that is true then we are functioning in concert with each other.
Being “like-minded” is similar to what happens in an orchestra. There are many instruments in an orchestra, but they all play from the same sheet of music. They each have their part and together they make beautiful music. Let’s make music together.
Prayer: Father, help me to understand the value of being united with Christ and connected to the entire body of Christ. Grant me the grace of love, unity and purpose that you desire for your body. In Jesus name, amen.
Message: Being united with Christ brings us into relationship with his entire body. Because we are connected to the body of Christ we must purpose to be of the same attitude of mind as the rest of the body
Affirmation: I am committed to having the same love and to be one is spirit with the body of Christ so that as one we might fulfill the purposes of God.
Reflection: There are many divisions, or “denominations” in the body of Christ. Why do you think that is? What can be done to remedy the problem of the divided body of Christ?
