The Story of New Hope Ministry Resources

Picture
Paul and Jane Smith - Founders of  New  Hope Ministries
Their  first ministry together was at  a low income apartment complex in 1994. They ministered to people they  thought were just poor and needy, but they later found out that the   cause of their poverty was drug and alcohol addiction. It was while ministering to the many families in this complex that Paul and Jane learned to work  with people in bondage to undesirable behaviors like drugs and  alcohol.

This is the story of how New Hope Restoration
                                 Ministries  has developed.

Just Married
Paul and Jane met in 1994 and were married in June of that year. They had asked the pastor to make a call at the end of the service for those who wanted to give their heart to the Lord. One of Jane's co-workers began a new life in Christ that day.
On their honeymoon about 11 o'clock one night a couple got into the hot tub sauna with them. They had a drink in one hand and a cigarette in the other. As they talked they revealed that he was a bartender and she was a bar maid.
The bartender asked what Paul did and Paul proceeded to share that he was a preacher - 45 minutes later they all held hands as the bartender and the bar maid gave their hearts to Jesus.
Those days set the tone for a life of evangelism and service in the Kingdom of God.

Howe Ave Place
Their first ministry together was in an apartment complex near where they were living. They knocked on doors and visited with people nearly every day of the week and eventually the owners gave them an apartment to use for their ministry.
At one point they were ministering to over 100 people in the complex and on one Sunday morning baptized 14 people in the swimming pool.

New Hope  Community:
The Pathfinder  Inn
The  work at the apartment complex  opened the door for a ministry to homeless families in a 200 room motel that we  called Pathfinder  Inn. New  Hope Community was formed to give families  an opportunity to become restored without having to be separated from each
other. We ministered to hundreds of families and many of them are leaders  in the church today. This ministry project provided housing and a  restoration program for as many as 70 families at once.

New Hope  Community:

Villa Capri  Apartments
After just over 2 years at the  Pathfinder Inn we moved 45 families from the motel to an apartment complex we  had leased for the program. Many of these families flourished as they  were given the stability of having their own place to live. By this time many of  the
families had gotten off of welfare and the adults were working full  time. In a little over four years we worked with over 400 families and saw many miracles of healing and  deliverance from all manner of  conditions.

God Walk -  A Journey of  Faith
The many lessons we learned while  working with the homeless families provided the foundation for a book and a  ministry of seeing people restored. The theme of New Hope Ministries  became Bringing the Message of  Reconciliation, Renewal and Restoration To A People and A Land. This message of restoration is the  cornerstone of our ministry today.

Paul has written a book used by churches across America in teaching people how to overcome undesirable behaviors.
The book is God Walk - A journey of Faith and leads the reader through the process of conversion and establishing a God walk of faith.

A Message from Paul:
As I was gaining victory over my recurring sin many years ago, God gave me a prayer to use in times of temptation and it was very effective in driving away those errant thoughts and desires. I call it simply, The Temptation Prayer. I have given out hundreds, maybe even thousands of them, over the years and many have found it effective in overcoming temptation.

Relationship Evangelism - The Farming  Method
A very  successful method of reaching  neighborhoods has grown out of  the New Hope experience. While we were  ministering in the Villa Capri Apartments we began to "farm" the other  complexes around us. By farming I mean a method of reaching a neighborhood
by being in the community visiting and ministering on a daily basis.
After  a few weeks we begin to build relationships with people who look  forward to our weekly visits. This method is taught  today in churches across  America.

Daily God Walk
Early in his adult life Paul realized that in order to have a consistent faith walk he would have to establish a daily devotional life. When he and Jane began the New Hope Community project they realized that these people who were new believers in Christ needed help in developing their own personal daily devotional time.
The devotional Daily God Walk, a monthly publication is the answer to providing a resource for a daily devotional.
They are in their sixth year of publishing the Daily God Walk (2013) and have this year added a new addition to the book. Now there is a special Study Guide Edition available.
The Study Guide Edition a guide for discussion and reflection that follows each daily devotion. There is a two fold purpose for this. First it provides material for reflection and meditation and an opportunity for the reader to write their thoughts. Secondly, it provides a format for small group meeting.

Hope For Haiti Now
While attending a missions conference  in the fall of 2002 Paul and Jane felt God speak to them about working with  Missionary Bob Jones in Haiti. Hope For Haiti Now, a ministry with a  vision to feed children and help support pastors in this impoverished nation,  has grown out of that call.
To date we are feeding about 250 children  and have dug two wells. We have also built a kitchen and toilet to facilitate the feeding program at Bob Jones' mission, The Royal Palms  Children Home.

New Hope Restoration Ministries  (NHRM) was born from a servants heart After travelling across  America and ministering to many congregations we discovered a common thread  among the believers we met.
First, there is a strong desire to reach  their community.
Second, many believers feel inadequate because of their lack of effective training.
The third thing we found was that many believers  were still dealing with personal behaviors that kept them from experiencing God's best for their lives.
God began to build in our heart a  desire to help people across America discover new freedom in Christ and  become equipped to serve in their area of gifting. NHRM has grown out of this  God given
desire.

Today Jane and Paul Smith have taken New Hope  Restoration Ministries to a new level as they travel across America visiting congregations Teaching the farming method of evangelism in their Relationship Evangelism  Seminars. They also teach seminars on restoration using the God Walk - A Journey of  Faith  materials Paul has developed. They  are also active in the Hope For Haiti Now  mission project they founded.

New Hope Community Outreach Church
In September 2013 Paul and Jane planted a new church in  Lucerne, Ca.
The church is founded on the principles of Relationship Evangelism and God Walk - A Journey of Faith.
That church evolved into a truly community outreach ministry. In March of 2013 they began to serve coffee and a muffin in the park. That led to what is now called "Church in the Park," and around 50 people come for outdoor worship every Sunday.
