Don’t Stand There – Do Something
We don’t know how long they stood there gazing into the sky, and we don’t know how long they would have stayed there waiting for him to return had the two angels not appeared to break the spell. There is a time to gaze – and there is a time to move on and be about the masters business.
I am reminded of the time Peter, James and John were with Jesus on the mountain and suddenly there appeared Moses and Elijah standing beside him. The disciples were awed at the scene. In fact, they wanted to build a tabernacle and just stay there.
That’s the way we are. When something marvelous happens we want to enshrine it and keep coming back to it to memorialize what happened there, but Jesus had given them orders to go to Jerusalem and wait for the promise of power to fulfill his purposes for the kingdom of God.
The best that God has for us is only opened to us as we walk in obedience to his instructions. We must not be so awe struck from gazing at his glory that we fail to move on to serve him.
Prayer: Lord, I do stand in awe of you; but I know that the work of the kingdom cannot be accomplished while I stand gawking. Grant me the grace of balance between being in awe and being at work in your kingdom. In Jesus name, amen.
